On January 18, 2024, Mrs. Eva Nykolyn passed away peacefully at the age of 102 years. Eva is survived by her loving family; son, Alfred Nykolyn (Sylvia Boyetchko) and daughter, Carol Nykolyn (George Akagi). Predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter Nykolyn and one younger brother. Eva was born in the Ukraine and came to Canada as a young child. She was a longterm resident of the Waskatenau area, building up the family farm with her husband for over sixty years. Upon the passing of her husband in 2001, she lived in quiet dignity, first at the Diamond Spring Lodge in Redwater, and then at the Rivercrest Care Center in Fort Saskatchewan. While she greeted everyone at Rivercrest with a bright smile, her heart remained with the farm life she shared with Peter, and she longed for the time when she would be with him again. Eva was a true country woman. She was equally comfortable driving a tractor as she was baking bread. Knitting, sewing and trying new recipes were some of her interests. Gardening was her big passion as she eagerly waited for the seed catalogue to arrive and planned her trips to the greenhouse. Special thanks to the staff at the Rivercrest Care Center for their constant care over the past thirteen years. The Nykolyn family also appreciates the kindness and thoughtfulness of the medical staff at the Fort Saskatchewan Hospital that attended to Eva’s needs in her final hours. As per Eva’s wishes, there will be no public memorial service at this time. Cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be placed next to her husband’s ashes in Evergreen Memorial in the spring of this year. A grave site service may be held at that time.
