Trends and tips on offer at home and garden show
More than 350 exhibitors poised to join TV celebs and social media influencers
The 2024 Edmonton Home and Garden Show is the perfect place to ask the pros about products, pricing, trends and tips. The four-day show has everything from shopping to DIY counselling plus gardening advice and the opportunity to meet local contractors ready to make your home improvement dreams come true.
The comprehensive four-day expo runs from March 21 to 24 at the Edmonton Expo Centre and is the biggest home and garden show of the year. Along with appearances by celebrities and social media influencers plus interactive design features, more than 350 exhibitors and vendors will be on hand showcasing new products and services for the home, from the inside out.
Appearing in Edmonton is real estate and renovation expert Scott McGillivray, the congenial host of popular HGTV shows such as Renovation Resort, Scott's Vacation House Rules and Income Property.
“We are thrilled to be bringing one of HGTV Canada's top personalities to the show for the first time. We're always working hard to bring in the best industry experts and inspiration to help homeowners tackle any project they have. Scott brings years of experience, and we know fans will be excited to have him in town to share his advice and insight,” says show manager Casey Matulic.
McGillivray has been educating and coaching people about home improvement and real estate in
vesting via television, workshops and digital platforms since 2006 and says he's eager to meet Edmonton audiences.
“Alberta is the most receptive province for those who invest and educate themselves in the real estate space, which I admire. There's a lot of untapped ambition in Alberta,” McGillivray says.
His home and garden stage presentation will touch on filming Season 2 of Renovation Resort, Season 6 of Scott's Vacation House Rules and a new U.S. series to be revealed later this year.
His primary goal during the home and garden show is to hammer home the message that there is money waiting to be made in real estate.
“I will address the top three things people can do this year to start building a nest egg, whether it's from participating in the development of real estate or investing in properties or maximizing the property they have. That's the three levels of information I'll cover in my presentation,” he says.
After teaching people how to invest in real estate, McGillivray will be sharing how to invest in real estate with him through an investment structure that he and his team set up several years ago.
“Investing in a project can be intimidating but we put together a format that's accessible for people who aren't ready to go out and get their own property,” he says.
McGillivray and his team of agents and development fund experts will be available for several hours post-presentation. Mainstage show times are March 23 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Also appearing on the mainstage, and back by popular demand, is organization specialist Megan Golightly of Go Simplified, DIY expert Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault, interior plant designer Grace Salaysay and many others.
Returning for 2024 is Backyard Wars, a friendly competition in which local landscape companies use their design genius to build a mock mini-backyard. Show attendees vote for their favourite backyard set up.
And speaking of which, no super fun backyard in 2024 should be without a pickleball court. The exciting new Paddle Paradise feature at the show will showcase a court for pickleball, which is North America's fastest growing sport. Daily demos and information on all the equipment required to for the sport will be offered by professional player Jorge Quintero of Edmonton-based Churco Pickleball.
The Makers Keep pop-up shop will make its debut at the show with a curated selection of handmade home goods and art pieces created by Edmonton and area makers.
A list of all vendors, features and presentation times is available on the show's website at edmontonhomeandgarden.com.
