-

It is with profound sorrow that the family and loved ones of Donald Roderick MacDonald announce his peaceful passing on January 8, 2024 at age 76 at the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton. We take great comfort in knowing that Rod has been welcomed into the loving arms of His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May he rest there in peace forevermore.

A loyal and tireless friend, confidante, and mentor to so many, Rod will be fondly remembered for his sharp, witty sense of humour, his generous and caring spirit, his wisdom, and his unyielding commitment to his family and Church.

Realizing his talent for flying at a young age, Rod was a successful and highly respected commercial pilot who lived to share his lifelong passion for aviation. He was also an avid outdoorsman. Whether hunting in the Fall or fishing in Alberta's rivers and lakes, Rod was most at peace when he was immersed in nature. We take comfort in knowing that he resides now forevermore in God's splendor.

Rod is predeceased by his oldest son, Ryan, and is survived by his sister, Patricia Denise Metcalfe, daughters Kristin Lorene Sowak (Greg), Jennifer Dawn Almgren (Kris), his son Bradley Darrin MacDonald (Erin), his beloved friend and partner Diane Burgener, and his six grandchildren Matthew (Ellen), Abigail, Miles, Eric, Lukas, and Alex.

The family wishes to extend sincere and profound thanks to the Lung Transplant team at University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, for their enduring commitment, professionalism, and support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rod's memory can be made to the Alberta Lung Breathing Space.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on April 27, 2024 at Glenwood Funeral Home, 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, AB.
