EDMONTON-AREA INDUSTRY STANDS TALL
StreetSide leads the field as building community honours `outstanding work' in array of categories
With nine wins under its belt, StreetSide Developments was the big winner at the 2024 Awards of Excellence in Housing.
The builder, known for its expertise in the multi-family field, won one of the evening's top awards — Builder of the Year Multi-Family — and took five of the 10 multi-family awards as well as three sales awards as the Canadian Home Builders' Association-Edmonton Region held its gala awards event at the Edmonton Convention Centre.
StreetSide also won for Best Apartment Building for its West Secord Urban Flats, and almost scored a sweep in the Multi-Family – Townhome Duplex Style category by taking the Best Multi-Family under $300,000, the Best Multi-Family $300,000 to $350,000 and the Best Multi-Family $350,000 to $400,000 at the March 16 event. The remaining award, for $400,000 to $450,000, went to Averton.
Following closely behind StreetSide was Jayman Built, which had seven wins.
Jayman won Builder of the Year — Large Volume, took two of the three Environmental Recognition Awards (Single-Family Large Volume Builder – more than 75 units, and Best Net Zero Home – Single Family), took the Best Greenfield Garden/ Secondary Suite, received two Single-Family Homes awards (Best Single Family under $300,000 and Best Single Family $300,000 to $350,000) and also won for Best Design Centre/Show Room.
Other key winners that Saturday night were Kanvi Homes as Builder of the Year — Small Volume, Ackard Contractors as Renovator of the Year and Oasis Engineering as General Member of the Year. Oasis also won one of the three General Member of the Year — Builders' Choice Awards.
“We are thrilled and excited to celebrate the outstanding work of our members from beautiful single and multi-family homes to energy efficiency, leadership, and sales and service excellence,” said Laura Bruno, CEO, CHBA-Edmonton Region. “The Awards of Excellence in Housing showcases our industry's best. Being a finalist or winner shows that member companies are distinguished in their respective field.”
But the award winning didn't stop there.
Cambrian, Sherwood Park's new neighbourhood from the Rohit Group, was named Best New Community. Chappelle Gardens, from Brookfield Residential, received the evening's Best Community award and follows up an impressive win last year at the national CHBA awards where it was selected as the Best Growing Community in Canada.
Rohit and Brookfield took six and five awards, respectively, right behind the top two of StreetSide and Jayman. Rohit was also awarded the Industry Leadership Award. Its other awards came in the advertising, sales and sales centre segments while Brookfield also had wins in the sales section and snagged the new Safety Excellence award.

Brookfield won the Safety Excellence Award — Builder Member, while All Weather Windows was chosen as its General Member winner.
“The creation of the Safety Excellence Awards reflects a growing emphasis on prioritizing and celebrating practices that ensure the well-being of all involved in construction projects,” said Bruno. “Safety has become a pivotal aspect of industry standards, and by introducing these awards we aim to not only acknowledge outstanding safety protocols but also to set a precedent for the entire community. In addition, we reconfigured the award's categories to better align with the current market.”
THE WINNING CONTINUES
With awards presented in 67 categories, a large number of CHBA-Edmonton Region members also had a memorable night as they proceeded to the winner's podium at this year's opera housethemed event.
Qualico Communities received three, including Best Show Home Parade for its west end community of The Uplands at Riverview. The three infill awards went to San Rufo Homes, Alloy Homes and Urbis Infill Homes, while Ackard Contractors, which won the top renovation award, took two more in the six renovation categories. Other renovation award winners were Alair Homes, Contact Renovations and Custom Homes, Diamond Contracting, and Habitat Studio.
