Motel care doesn't bode well for AHS
Re. “LaGrange apologizes to stroke patient,” March 22 Health Minister Adriana Lagrange says that “a non-profit organization will be removed from a provincial list of potential housing providers … .” Interestingly, the government recognizes after the fact anonymous private health-extension services paid for by a government that, apparently, doesn't know how to respond to serious health issues until something goes bad and the problem is publicly identified.
The announcement of dumping a recovering stroke patient into a motel was another ill-fated day for Albertans in an unnecessary and costly reorganization of AHS by an oblivious government.
At least, the health minister was honest when she candidly admitted that she does not know who and how the lists of apparently suitable aftercare health facilities are compiled and approved.
With this example, we may now foresee the outcome of the health services restructuring that likely will enrich a few but won't benefit common Albertans looking for the sound health care that they pay for.
If the health minister does not know about basic health issues, how can we, all potential patients, trust the unknown upcoming system? Tony L. Fernandes, Edmonton
