Snoop Dogg, Sam Hunt, Heart to play Rogers Place this year

-

Major tours featuring a country superstar, a rap pioneer and classic rock legends are heading to Edmonton this year.

Heart, Snoop Dogg and Sam Hunt will all make stops at Rogers Place.

Up first, the rapper you may also know as the Doggfather will be in town on June 20 as part of his Cali to Canada tour that begins in Halifax on June 3, and ends in Vancouver on June 25. Snoop Dogg will also play in Calgary at the Scotiabank Saddledome on June 21.

The multiplatinum selling rapper will be joined by G-funk pioneers Warren G and DJ Quik, along with New York DJ and producer DJ Green Lantern on the 22-day tour that spans 11 cities.

It's been five years since Snoop Dogg last performed in Edmonton at Rogers Place.

Snoop Dogg rose to stardom following the release of his debut album Doggystyle in 1993. The entertainment icon has continued to have great success over a career that has spanned more than 30 years.

He is known as the main force in the introduction of West Coast rap to mainstream audiences.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale Thursday at 8 a.m., while general on-sale tickets are available Friday at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com.

Meanwhile, successful songwriter turned country-pop superstar Sam Hunt is at Rogers Place on Sept. 21.

The Cedartown, Ga.-born songwriter penned singles for Reba McEntire, Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney before breaking out with Leave the Night On, which found him being the first country artist in 22 years (since Billy Ray Cyrus) to land at the top of three country charts simultaneously.

A forward-looking genre-blender who pulls R&B into his pop country songs, other notable hits by the 39-year-old include Take Your Time and Make You Miss Me.

“I want to sound different than everybody else,” Hunt told Billboard, alluding to his college sports days. “To use a football phrase, I try to zig when other people zag.”

His new EP Locked Up, nodding to his DUI arrest, is out Friday.

Hunt's North American, 20-city Locked Up Tour featuring Dalton Dover will be opening up on the Canadian dates, including playing the Saddledome in Calgary the night before the Edmonton stop.

Doors open for the 7:30 p.m. show at 6:30 p.m.

General admission tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at samhunt. com.

And lastly, Hall of Fame rock band Heart is expanding its Royal

Flush return tour with new international stops, including Rogers Place on Nov. 27.

Heart returns to the road starting April 20 after a five-year hiatus, and anticipation for the shows has been so high that they've added several new stops to the tour. They will also tour Europe in June and July, before returning for three epic stadium shows with Def Leppard and Journey in Cleveland, Toronto and Boston this summer.

“I am incredibly proud of the show that we have crafted and am looking forward to reconnecting with even more fans,” said Heart's Nancy Wilson. “We can't wait to share our music with everyone and celebrate the big electric energy of a completely live on-the-spot rock show.”

For the Edmonton show, Heart will be joined by Bachman-Turner Overdrive featuring Randy Bachman.

With a career spanning nearly five decades, the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees have sold more than 35 million albums worldwide, with numerous Top 40 singles to their name, including Magic Man, Barracuda, Crazy on You and These Dreams.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m. local time through Heart's official website.
