THREE TO SEE
IRL
A wink at the fact most photography now lives both briefly and “forever” as online images on tiny phones, Latitude 53's new group show IRL is an intentionally large-scale series of prints set directly on the walls. Photographers Jordan Hon, Wesley O'Driscoll, Lexi Penzeich and Salem Zurch show off their intimate, real-world portraiture at this expanded scale, striking a balance between isolation and community in these frozen moments. Stay tuned at latitude53. org for upcoming interactive programming with the works in the next couple months.
Details: opens 7 p.m. Friday, runs through May 11 at Latitude 53 (10130 100 St.), by donation.
VEAL
C'mon, dude, you know you miss them indie '90s! Luke Doucet-fronted Veal returns one final time to the stage in this plaid-shirt, ripped-knee lineup including also-classic, dusted-off local quartet Molly's Reach — named after the Beachcombers restaurant, of course — and featuring local luminaries Lyle Bell and Steve Derpack. Making the roster basically perfect, The Confusionaires show off their muscles and riffs. The show is a celebration of the silver anniversary of Veal's Tilt O'Whirl, and it is certainly recommended you bring earplugs and prepare to mosh.
Details: 7:30 p.m. at Soho (11454 Jasper Ave.), $25/eventbrite.ca, $30/door.
PEEPING TOM ( 1960):
In this new restoration of Michael Powell's psychological horror, a serial killer murders women while using a portable film camera to record their dying expressions of terror — putting his footage together into a snuff film used for his own pleasure. Critically panned at the time, it became a cult classic as a precursor to slasher films, and doesn't pointing a camera at something awful for thrills sound a little like the entire backbone of clickbait social media these days?
Details: 9:30 p.m. at Metro Cinema (8712 109 St.), $14.
