Sue White was born in North­ern Alberta and grew up in Stony Plain. She’s been sup­port­ing the dis­abil­ity sec­tor in Ed­mon­ton for over a decade and re­cently moved into the role of CEO with the Win­nifred Ste­wart As­so­ci­a­tion. This year marks the 65th an­niver­sary of the Win­nifred Ste­wart As­so­ci­a­tion, an or­ga­ni­za­tion with a vi­sion to sup­port in­di­vid­u­als with de­vel­op­men­tal dis­abil­i­ties to meet their po­ten­tial and have full lives in an in­clu­sive, sup­port­ive com­mu­nity.

It’s Sun­day morn­ing, what are you hav­ing for break­fast?

I don’t eat break­fast but the cof­fee is plen­ti­ful.

If you didn’t do what you do for a liv­ing, what would you be?

I love what I do so it’s hard to come up with an al­ter­na­tive - def­i­nitely some­thing that sup­ports our com­mu­ni­ties and im­proves the lives of peo­ple in need.

Who’s your hero?

dr. Win­nifred Ste­wart - her pas­sion and in­no­va­tion to change the sta­tus quo is daily in­spi­ra­tion for me.

Last book you couldn’t put down

I’m re-read­ing the Harry Pot­ter se­ries with my son and I’m to­tally get­ting drawn into the wizard­ing world again.

Who was your child­hood celebrity crush?

1980s in alberta? Wayne gret­zky all the way.

What’s play­ing in your ipod (CD, cas­sette or eight­track) right now?


If you could see one con­cert, what would it be?

the Bea­tles (as­sum­ing I can find a de­lorean).

What’s the best thing about Ed­mon­ton?

Our char­i­ta­ble cul­ture - there is al­most no wor­thy cause we won’t get be­hind.

What’s your weird­est habit?

I re­ally love the fill­ing in Oreos I’ve been known to only eat the fill­ing and throw away the cookie part.

What’s your big­gest pet peeve?

Peo­ple who use the word “like” more than once in a sen­tence.

What’s your fast-food guilty plea­sure?

Spring rolls.

What was your most em­bar­rass­ing mo­ment?

I don’t gen­er­ally get em­bar­rassed but be­ing re­flec­tive, I would say high school. Ev­ery. Last. Minute. Of. It.

Which per­son, alive or dead, would you like to have din­ner with?

My kids - we get so busy, some­times just eat­ing to­gether be­comes a lux­ury.

What’s your favourite va­ca­tion des­ti­na­tion?

Shadow Lake Lodge, back­coun­try lodge be­tween Banff and Lake Louise.

What is your favourite TV show?

the Of­fice.

What’s your dream car?

I’m not a car per­son - func­tion over form for me.

If you could have one su­per power, what would it be?

Fly­ing - no more con­struc­tion de­lays!

What’s the one thing you haven’t done that you’d love to do?

Scuba dive with sharks - they fas­ci­nate me.
