Stars’ Polak has fractured sternum

Roman Polak sustained a small fracture of his sternum and will be evaluated in a week, the team announced Friday.
Polak appeared to lose his balance and went headfirst into the boards during the second period of the Stars’ 2-1 seasonopening loss against the visiting boston bruins on thursday.
the 33-year-old was battling for the puck with bruins forward Chris Wagner when his head collided with the boards. the 14-year veteran was down on the ice for several minutes before he was removed on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, according to the Stars.
“the good news is that roman has full use of his extremities,” dallas coach Jim
Montgomery said after the game.
Schenn cashes in
Forward Brayden Schenn signed an eight-year, $52 million contract extension Friday that will keep him with the St. Louis blues through the 2027-28 season.
the 28-year-old Schenn has spent the previous two seasons with the blues, recording a career-high 70 points (28 goals, 42 assists) in 2017-18 and 54 points (17 goals, 37 assists) last season. He added 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in the blues’ postseason run to the Stanley cup in 2018-19.
In 588 regular-season games, Schenn has 372 points (154 goals, 218 assists).
