Stars’ Po­lak has frac­tured ster­num

Ro­man Po­lak sus­tained a small frac­ture of his ster­num and will be eval­u­ated in a week, the team an­nounced Fri­day.

Po­lak ap­peared to lose his bal­ance and went head­first into the boards dur­ing the sec­ond pe­riod of the Stars’ 2-1 sea­sonopen­ing loss against the vis­it­ing boston bruins on thurs­day.

the 33-year-old was bat­tling for the puck with bruins for­ward Chris Wag­ner when his head col­lided with the boards. the 14-year vet­eran was down on the ice for sev­eral min­utes be­fore he was re­moved on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hos­pi­tal for eval­u­a­tion, ac­cord­ing to the Stars.

Schenn cashes in

For­ward Bray­den Schenn signed an eight-year, $52 mil­lion con­tract ex­ten­sion Fri­day that will keep him with the St. Louis blues through the 2027-28 sea­son.

the 28-year-old Schenn has spent the pre­vi­ous two sea­sons with the blues, record­ing a ca­reer-high 70 points (28 goals, 42 as­sists) in 2017-18 and 54 points (17 goals, 37 as­sists) last sea­son. He added 12 points (five goals, seven as­sists) in the blues’ post­sea­son run to the Stan­ley cup in 2018-19.

In 588 reg­u­lar-sea­son games, Schenn has 372 points (154 goals, 218 as­sists).
