Truck used to steal ATM in Thorsby

Edmonton Sun - - NEWS - Lisa JOHNSON @reportrix

Police are looking for thieves who targeted two atm machines at two businesses early Sunday morning in thorsby, about 70 km southwest of edmonton.

at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, rcmp were called to an alarm at the Village Supermarket in thorsby, said an rcmp news release.

before police arrived, a resident reported that they had heard a loud noise, looked outside and saw that the thorsby esso gas station appeared to have been broken into.

rcmp officers arrived at the gas station first. cctv cameras show a silver Ford F-350 truck with aluminum rims backed up to the glass door of the business.

a man wearing a black hoody then broke the glass and entered the store where he attached a sling to the atm. the truck then drove forward, removing the atm and causing significant damage in the process.

Investigators also discovered that the Village Supermarket had been broken into in a similar fashion and the thieves attempted to steal the atm from that business as well but were unsuccessful.

both businesses will be closed for repairs as the investigation takes place.

Police believe that the F-350 may have broken a tail light during the crime and had pre-existing damage on the driver’s side door.

they are asking anyone who may have information to contact the thorsby detachment at 780-789-3951, crime Stoppers at 1-800222-8477 (TIPS), online at or by using the “P3 tips” app available through the apple app or Google Play Store.
