Mango’s on the move

Edmonton Sun - - LIFE - TOM SPEARS

OTTAWA — Baby Mango, the piglet that fell off a truck east of Ottawa a month ago, has recovered from surgery and is moving to the country.

But this little pig is definitely not going to market.

Mango has a new home under construction at Penny Lane Farm Sanctuary in Clarence-rockland, and will move in on Oct. 18.

“He is soooooo happy,” said Dr. Lara Elizabeth Cohen, the vet who took him in and arranged for his surgery.

Mango is only three months old.

“It’s difficult to keep him caged because he likes my dog’s toys and he has taken over my dog’s bed,” she said Tuesday. “It has been a challenge but every day he gets to walk a little bit more.”

She had no idea whether Mango would survive when he was brought in, wrapped in a towel and unable to walk.

A motorist saw him lying at the edge of the highway.

“He did better than we expected because he was walking on it (the repaired leg) sooner than we expected.”
