History of gelato

Edmonton Sun - - LIFE -

some would say gelato’s history is as old as time, with flavours and techniques handed down through generations. There are as many stories of how gelato came to be as there are flavours. research shows the chinese recorded eating a refreshing iced mixture as early as 200 bc. From there, the process of making frozen sweets probably found its way to India and then Persia, and was brought to sicily by the arabs. Other research shows gelato was first created by bernardo buontalenti for the court of Francesco de’ Medici in 1565. still, some say Marco Polo brought the idea back from his asian sojourns. In Italy, sicily stands out as the place where gelato creations are world-renowned.
