Hamil­ton moves on

Steve Hamil­ton is start­ing his sec­ond year as cal­gary Hit­men head coach but you don’t just wipe away a large chunk of your hockey life with the ed­mon­ton Oil Kings.

“Last year was an emo­tional year for a lot of rea­sons … I spent eight years there and to play them in the play­offs, too,” said Hamil­ton, who was derek Lax­dal’s right-hand man for four years un­til Lax­dal moved on to coach dal­las Stars AHL farm team and Hamil­ton took over for four more as head man.

He was let go in May, 2018 and quickly caught on with the Hit­men.

“I had eight great years with the Oil Kings. I think ev­ery­one’s moved on and is in a good place.”

“I’m com­fort­able with where I’m at. the fam­ily’s do­ing re­ally good, my wife (Nancy) is teach­ing with cal­gary pub­lic … we (they have three kids) all landed on our feet,” said Hamil­ton, 46.
