the allure of shoes, according to Sandra Choi, creative director for Jimmy Choo, is that they impart “an instant change of character.” She offers her own experience as an example. “I often walk around the studio barefoot and play around with different pairs: flats, high heels, winter boots. Shoes set the tone for everything.” Take Vices, the brand’s resort capsule collection, which offers a full-on razzle-dazzle experience: Each of the seven pieces is inspired by a city and a gemstone, a passion of Choi’s. The Jynx owes its bold glamour to the glorious complexity of Tokyo. “Japan has two sides,” explains Choi. “One is very conservati­ve; one is a little bonkers. The pump is traditiona­l, and the materials—pearls with sapphire-hued crystal stones—are totally unexpected.” Choi says that the Choo woman is similarly multi-faceted: “She knows the right side of sexy whether she’s wearing heels, flats or trainers. She’s totally confident in herself.” n
