had a lot of interesting talks about happiness while putting this issue together. Is pursuing it as hollow as looking for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow? (Because, come on, wasn’t seeing the rainbow good enough for you?) Or is seeking contentment the only thing that keeps us going? I’ve decided that, for me, it’s both. We should spend our lives seeking out a meaningful purpose, but I’m still going to buy flowers every week just because it makes me smile. Besides, Julianne Moore says that being happy is her best beauty secret (page 40). And that’s better than any pot of gold. KATHRYN HUDSON
