Editor-in-chief Noreen’s new mouse friend is her constant companion #applewatchenvy

within moments of putting on my Apple Watch, I felt my wrist start to generate “heat.” I noticed it as soon as I sat down on the subway and started to experiment with the face settings. As I was flipping through the options, I got the distinct sense that I was being watched. I looked up and noticed two young men staring at my wrist with laser-like intensity. No words were exchanged. Just knowing glances. #techstreetcred When I arrived at work, everyone gathered around to check it out. My version, with its stylish stainless-steel Milanese Loop wrist strap, was greeted with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for puppies, babies and Céline handbags. Over the next week, strangers—from a store clerk to a Hollywood power publicist to my seatmate on a plane—wanted to touch it. Wear it. Covet it. When I was in Vancouver visiting my friend Dana, her 19-year-old stepson was gobsmacked when he spotted it. “I can’t believe I’m touching an Apple Watch,” he said. “If I’d known you had one, I would have stolen it from you last night while you were sleeping,” he said, laughing. (I think he was joking.) His father, Charlie, however, wasn’t interested in the watch. He wanted to see video clips from our recent shoot with Cindy Crawford in Los Angeles. (FYI, she’s our October cover, and it’s a stunner.) “Wow!” he said. “She has always been so beautiful. Wow!” Clearly “hotness” is relative. What induces envy/ admiration in some is, at best, a mild curiosity for others. The ELLE Canada editorial team kept that in mind when they were compiling our “Hot 50” guide (page 47).
