Runway beauty used to be all about uniformity: Models showcased designers’ clothes in a sea of identical-hair-and-makeup harmony. Now, self-expression is the (welcome) zeitgeist. Prada’s wonderful jewelled side-pinned ponytail is for the woman who’s happy to stand out in a crowd; so is the artisanal yet futuristic white eye makeup at Kenzo. At Céline, models’ hair came, refreshingly, in its natural state, from afros to loose, flowing waves. Individuality has finally trumped the trend. vanessa craft
