NICOLE KIDMAN PLAYS SAROO’S MOTHER IN LION . SHE SPENDS A LARGE PORTION OF THE FILM IN 1980s COSTUME, SO HERE’S WHAT SHE LEARNED FROM PLAYING A CHARACTER SET IN A “HISTORICAL PERIOD” THAT SHE ACTUALLY REMEMBERS FROM HER OWN LIFE :

“The decades really start to go when you get to my age. [She’s 49.] It’s like, ‘What? It’s gone so fast now.’ People have always said ‘It goes so quickly, it goes so quickly.’ When you’re young, you’re like, ‘Ugh, yeah right.’ But as you get older, you go ‘They were so right.’ That’s probably why I try to do so much right now, because I’m like [gasps], ‘Time is so precious.’ I lost my father about a year ago, and I think from that point on, I’ve gone ‘Don’t worry about anything. Have fun and give it a go; if it doesn’t work out, try the next thing. But be here, be present, and have a good time as much as you can.’”
