LOW- TECH
Step away from the screen and stare at a square box of a different non-bluelight-emitting kind this winter. We recommend the rainbow-coloured, Rorschach-esque abstraction of Canadian artist Alex Janvier, who has a gorgeous retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa from now until April.
HIGH- TECH Binge-watching is inevitable. Here are two tips to doing it right: 1. Live by the 20-20-20 gospel: For every 20 minutes of Pretty Little Liars you watch, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This will help prevent eye strain. 2. Remember that the longer you watch, the less you may enjoy it: In psychology, this is known as “hedonic adaptation,” in which something pleasurable becomes less satisfying the more you are exposed to it.
