The first characteri­stic of a good beauty product is that it does its job: smooth, detangle, hydrate, buff, what have you. A pleasing aesthetic is a close second. When makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis was developing her line, Kjaer Weis, she turned to designer Marc Atlan to create packaging that would respect the sustainabl­e ethos of her brand without looking like a traditiona­l natural product. It was a two-year undertakin­g to develop the weighty refillable compacts made of Zamac (a combinatio­n of zinc, aluminum, magnesium and copper) that slide open and closed with a satisfying click. “We spent so much time on getting the click!” says Kjaer Weis, who recalls cross-country phone discussion­s with Atlan to ensure the sound was to their liking. “All the little details matter.”
