A crowd singing your lyrics back to you is a heady moment in any singer’s life. That happened to Sigrid Solbakk Raabe at her recent Toronto show, and “it means everything,” says the Norwegian, 21, known for her breakout hit “Don’t Kill My Vibe.” “If I say something that resonates with someone else, that’s pretty cool.”

HER BIG BREAK “My brother, who’s a musician, was playing a show in our hometown, and he wanted me to join him onstage. He said: ‘You need to write a song. You can’t do a cover again.’ I had two weeks to finish it.” (That song? It ended up playlisted on national radio in Norway.)

STAY IN SCHOOL! “I actually took a year off from music to just finish school and get my grades.

I’m happy I did that because by the time I finished high school, I was much more mentally ready for this.”

TEAM CANADA “I love Grimes, Drake—I’ve been listening to a lot of Drake covers. I’m a big Neil Young fan. We grew up listening to him. Joni Mitchell. I love ‘Sorry’ by Justin Bieber. The Weeknd. There are a lot of good musicians from Canada.”
