The way most of us consume runway shows is instant and fleeting— from a 15- second Instagram video to a few clicks of a slide show. Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia aims to change that with a new book, Balenciaga: Winter 2018, that chronicles the creation and staging of the house’s fall/ winter 2018 show. The 304- page tome, which is covered in the same neon graffiti motif as Gvasalia’s runway, is all photos— from backstage fittings to close- ups of the brand’s 3- D tailored coats. And to ensure that you, the viewer, get the full picture, the book’s creators added two neon tones to the range of colours typically used in printing so that the highlighte­r hues of the show really pop. Consider it the next best thing to owning a pair of the brand’s Knife boots.
