FINDING A STYLIST FOR YOUR hair type

-

WE ASKED Maybelline makeup genius Grace Lee who she trusts to cut her thick shoulder-length Korean hair, and she highly recommended Hiro Hayashi, co-owner and creative director at Salon Bespoke in Yorkville, in Toronto. Hayashi trained in Japan, where he perfected his ability to texturize hair, as well as at Sassoon Salon and Toni & Guy salons in Canada, where he improved his precision cutting. Because Asian hair tends to be thick, straight and frizz-free, a less-than-perfect cutting technique is more apparent. “You need to understand how the hair will fall,” explains Hayashi, who says he approaches cutting hair like he would “a drawing or a sculpture.” But what if you live in a city where it’s challenging to find someone who knows how to work with your hair type? While stylists should be able to work with all types of hair, we know this isn’t always the case. Call the salon and ask about a stylist’s experience with your hair type, and check their Instagram account to see their past work.
