Backstage at Cushnie spring/summer 2019—the designer’s first solo show since parting ways with former design partner Michelle Ochs—makeup artists passed around samples of Maybelline’s Made for All lipstick in a vibrant red. The diverse group of models at the show proved to be prime testing ground for the product, one of seven new shades designed to flatter skin tones ranging from Herieth Paul’s to Candice Huffine’s. “Sometimes companies formulate with too many yellow or white [pigments] and it either looks too blue or too pink [when applied],” Grace Lee, lead makeup artist for Maybelline New York Canada, told us backstage. “This one transfers as a true red on every skin tone.” Maybelline New York Color Sensational Made for All Lipstick in Red for Me ($11)
