Front Woman
THERE’S A GOOD REASON Stella McCartney is the first designer to be name-checked in any conversation about sustainable fashion. She’s as admired for her unfussy, feminine-cool clothes— like this season’s tie-dye separates and denim boiler suits—as she is for eschewing leather and fur (long before it became an industry trend to do so). McCartney is also a champion of renewable materials and has an ongoing partnership with Bolt Threads, a California-based tech company that’s developing lab-grown silk and a material made from mushroom roots that mimics the luxurious feel of leather. After all, there’s nothing more unsustainable than making clothes no one wants
to wear, and McCartney certainly doesn’t have that problem.
