CHANEL GAVE onlookers a holiday from the bustle of Fashion Week at its spring/summer 2019 show, transporting the audience to the south of France via the Grand Palais. Models in relaxed tweed sets and carefree silk sundresses strolled barefoot through (real) sand and (real) waves against a blue-sky backdrop. But the playful accessories— from oversized straw hats to the show’s scene-stealer: a beach-ballinspired leather handbag—sent a clear message that we could all take
fashion a little less seriously.
