ELLE (Canada)

BEHIND THE ISSUE

-

1) In an exclusive excerpt from her new memoir, We Have Always Been Here, Torontobased SAMRA HABIB gets personal about discovering her sense of style as a teen (page 66). What trend is she shopping now? “I’m really enjoying high-waisted, widelegged pants,” she tells us. “There is something so timeless about them. I’m instantly reminded of Katharine Hepburn.”

2) Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, JULIANA SCHIAVINATTO has been working in fashion since she was a teen. But the Toronto-based stylist, who pulled together the looks for our “City Haul” shoot (page 92), still gets major thrills on set. “I loved it when the strong wind hit the soft, tailored fabrics on some of the looks and created beautiful silhouettes,” she says. “And it was amazing working with Mae Lapres for the first time. I love her energy, personality and wit.”

3) Parisian model MAE LAPRES may have been sporting our fave pre-fall looks for our “City Haul” shoot (page 92), but we left the set wishing for an invite to one of her summer hangouts. “My ideal summer day is barbecuing in my garden in Paris with my friends and birds,” one of the new faces of Gucci Beauty tells us.

4) Why, yes, that is editor-in-chief VANESSA CRAFT casually hanging out with Céline Dion in Vegas before seeing the Canadian legend in all her glory onstage. For her chat with our cover star, head to page 70.

5) No two days at ELLE are alike for editorial assistant ERICA NGAO, who divides her time between prepping for fashion shoots, attending industry events and writing about breaking fashion news. Her key to getting it all done? “I try to be prepared for anything,” she says. “That includes wearing clothing with a lot of pockets and staying hydrated.”
