BEHIND THE ISSUE

1. When we need fashion advice, we go to style writer JILLIAN VIEIRA, a Caledon, Ont., native. But who does she turn to for inspo? “I would trade wardrobes with Sarah Michelle Geller’s Kathryn in Cruel Intentions. I love her late’90s minidresses, that corseted black blazer and her sumptuous lingerie collection, which I’d never buy for myself,” she says. “She can keep the cunning backstabbing bit, though!” To read her ultimate thrifting tips, head to page 50.

2. If Montreal-based photographer ROYAL GILBERT had followed his original plan, he wouldn’t have ended up shooting pages of our magazine. “When I was in high school, I wanted to become a dentist,” he admits. Luckily for us, the Canadian changed his mind. He was the perfect person to capture our “Leather Weather” shoot (p. 118)— even though he doesn’t wear leather himself.

3. We wouldn’t mind the mundanities of travel if the experience was always as glam as Louis Vuitton’s 2020 Cruise show, which was held at JFK airport in New York City. Alas, not every trip can involve a star-studded runway. Check out editor- in- chief VANESSA CRAFT’s full report on the show on page 48.

4. Obviously, we knew that Benefit Cosmetics is good at brows. What digital director VICTORIA DIPLACIDO didn’t expect to find out when she visited the brand’s San Francisco headquarters is that they also have the chicest offices, complete with a photo of co-founders/ identical twins Jean and Jane Ford. To learn all about Benefit’s newest must-try product, head to page 62.

5. Montreal-born, NYC-based NALIMA TOURÉ killed it as the on-set producer of our autumnal leather shoot. It’s no easy feat, as her main goal is always making sure “everyone is in an environment where they can create their best work.” (That means having a lot of focus and being able to multi-task.) After a long day at work, how does the New Yorker unwind? “A stroll through the West Village,” she says. “No matter how long I’ve lived in the city, it always feels so magical— especially during the fall.”
