When Feisal Qureshi, founder of hair-care brand Raincry, set out to develop a hair fragrance, he didn’t just want to create compelling aromas. “There had to be more to it,” he says, explaining that he also wanted it to give the hair an infusion of benefits. His result: Advanced Hair Mist ($72), which employs fortifying keratin and cysteine amino acids as well as conditioning panthenol and abyssinian oil to improve hair’s manageability and shine while transporting the wearer to familiar moments. Here, he details the vision behind each of the evocative scents.

NOIR

“I wanted something clean and crisp, almost like fresh linen with a citrusy, powdery smell to it. You’ll probably pick up some tangerine, a little bit of orange, a bit of mint. The base is very creamy and caramelly but bright and light.”

BLANC

“I tried to capture that romantic idea of waking up in a French meadow. I wanted to pick up all that floral smell but also a little bit of the air. [We added] watery notes and apple-blossom notes to [get] a bit of that morningdew scent.”

VERT

“It’s inspired by my grandmother, who lived in Britain and had this beautiful armoire [filled with] old cosmetics. There are these overtones of fresh, watery petals, country rose, some jasmine and a bit of amber and powder as well. ”

BRUN

“This one was inspired by my trips in the Mediterranean. You get these smells of incense and floral agents. It’s designed to be quite sensual and exotic. There’s oud in there, but we counterbalance it with some vanilla and sandalwood and violet.”
