Fourteen years after his groundbreaking action thriller/family comedy mashup, writer-director Brad Bird picks up where he left off. This time, Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) takes centre stage, eschewing domesticity in order to crush nefarious supervillains like Screenslaver (Catherine Keener) and rejuvenate the compromised reputation of superheroes. Craig T. Nelson’s Mr. Incredible, meanwhile, contentedly minds budding super-baby Jack-Jack on the home front.

This sly gender role inversion is pretty incredible, too.
