Air Canada enRoute

LETTER FROM THE ACTING EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

-

I love our stunning cover photo from Whistler, B.C. – the sheer vastness of snow, the skier’s graceful confidence and, especially, the fact that it’s hard to tell at a glance which way is up. That feels like an apt metaphor for this time of year, a period of endings and beginnings, the transition of seasons, busy preparations for travel and holidays, and the turn of one year into the next. The photo also serves as a reminder to face the topsy-turvy of change with a sense of joy and wonder.

This issue is filled with those qualities. Our ski package (page 54) digs into the very cool science of making snow, monitoring weather and staying safe even on daring backcountry runs. Meanwhile, an annual festival in rural Manitoba (page 125) allows grown-ups to recreate snow-day romps, complete with shinny games and moonlight tubing. And if you would like to join the fun but aren’t fully outfitted for all these adventures, we’ve got you covered. Our guide to the Ultimate Travel Gear (page 81) will help equip you for any eventuality – and stylishly so.

On the subject of new adventures, I am delighted to announce that Jody Sugrue is coming on board as editor-in-chief for Air Canada’s content and media programs. Jody is a seasoned creative director and content strategist, having previously worked at the Toronto International Film Festival and National Geographic. It was an honour for me to guide the team at Air Canada enRoute, as I know it will be for Jody. I’m very excited to see what’s to come under her leadership.

To those of you experiencing transitions of your own this season, I wish you the best on your journey and all good things in the year ahead.
