WHAT’S IN MARYAM’S CARRY-ON?
01 HATBOX
When I do carry a hatbox, it’s this vintage one I bought in Turin, Italy. It caught my eye because it looked sturdy and like something I could carry as an everyday bag.
02 SOCKS
This Marcoliani cashmere pair from the Cashmere Shop in Toronto keeps me warm when I fly.
03 WIPES
These polyester-based WaterWipes are basically just that – water. They’re made for kids, but I use them for everything, like removing my eye makeup.
04 BOOKS
I’ve always been a Joan
Didion fan. I’m currently reading We Tell Ourselves Stories in Order to Live. I also pack books for my 17-month-old daughter, Dali, and five-yearold son, Rumi.
05 SNACKS
I stock up on coconut chips and almonds from Whole Foods before a trip, making sure to pack extra to tide us over after landing, until we can do a grocery shop or get to a restaurant.
06 CHILDREN’S SHOES
Because my kids’ feet are tiny, we always manage to lose one of their shoes, so I bring extra pairs. These Tocotó Vintage ballerina flats are hand-me-downs from a friend, and the T-bar shoes are by La Coqueta, a Londonbased Spanish design brand I love.
07 IPAD
I use this for my digital sketches in Adobe Sketch. Otherwise I draw in a notebook, with pencils from my son’s art supply box.
08 HAT
This silk fascinator-style cushion hat is easy to travel with and looks just fancy enough for any occasion.
I’m making a less dramatic version of it for my collection.
