Your article “Lava Land” (February) offered a compelling and respectful account of the impact the Kilauea volcano has had on Hawaiian people and their environment. It was great to read an article about Hawaii that moved away from clichés of mai tais, surfers and beaches. The pictures of black hardened lava over the lush land also struck a chord with me, and it was amazing to see how the locals have faced this force of nature with such grace and grit.
