KELLY MCMICHAEL BJÖRK TRIBUTE CONCERT IN ST. JOHN’S, NL (2019)

I chose a poster from a show at the Ship in St. John’s, NL, because it’s a classic, fave spot. I think this might be my favourite show I’ve ever particpated in. I was one of two Björks singing with some freaks of nature — extremely skilled multi- instrumentalists and singers. Visual artists decorated the stage with tons of hanging vulvar jellyfish that made this sparkly feminine underwater scene. Learning and singing Björk’s genius arrangements was a challenge and so, so rewarding. What a joyous evening.

ROSITA ALCANTARA (NADUH) 2PAC

When I was a kid, I would steal my older brother’s MP3 player, hit shuffle and tracks like “Thugz Mansion” and “Changes” by 2Pac were on there. This was my entry into rap and hip- hop.

RALPH FEIST IN TORONTO, ON (2008)

My dad knew I was a big Feist fan, so he told me about this riddle she had posted online — people were scrambling to line up at the Cameron House because they believed that’s where the riddle led them. I ran over and waited in this mysterious long line up. They finally announced they were only letting in 100 people; I was number 101. The guy in front of me could tell how upset I was, so he let me take his spot and I just made it in.

WOLF CASTLE QUALITY BLOCK PARTY SEASON IN SAINT JOHN, NB (2020)

This poster represents a glimmer of hope in a sea of uncertainty. Normally a summer event, Quality Block Party pivoted and put on this live show in September 2020 – something unheard of at the time. Because of New Brunswick’s low case count, we were able to have a live, in- person event with sectioned off pod seating and strict safety protocols.

KIRTY SAID THE WHALE WITH FAST ROMANTICS, NORTH AMERICAN TOUR (2017)

In 2017 I went on tour across Canada with Fast Romantics, opening for our buds in Said the Whale. We played some incredible venues including the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver — which was one of my favourite shows to date. On top of that, each night was a fun hang with the kind folks in Said the Whale, and an opportunity to kick back after our set was done and watch them play.
