Young Guns: It’s Our Time to Shine

- By MIKE ALEXANDER

WITH EVERY GENERATION, THE previous generation notoriously thinks that the world is coming to an end and that “these kids” will be the ones to ruin it all. Music, art, social, political and, of course, even custom trucks—the older generation looks to the next generation not as the ones to carry the torch (like we should), but rather, by default, thinking that “they” will be the ones to end it and force it to go up in flames.

Granted, things constantly change and evolve, and no, things will never be like they were, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. With change comes new innovations, new styles and a constant push forward (sometimes a shove, but that’s what it takes to grow!). We all learn and grow, and this directly transfers to the evolution of our custom creations. The older generation needs to share the knowledge and passion with the next generation and constantly encourage rather then mock—or worse. We need them! For every kid who picks up a Hot Wheels instead of a video game, that’s one step closer to that one day when he or she will join the ranks of the custom automotive industry.

For this Spring issue, we visited some newer up-and-coming shops and chose to share their creations with the world. We wanted to showcase some of the “Young Guns” and prove that there is plenty of talent out there, both young and old, and these old trucks can definitely learn some new tricks. Also, this F-100 Builder’s Guide features a special 70th anniversary of the F-100 edition, visiting some of the model changes through illustrations from our friends over at Ford Era (cruise through Fordera. com and check out all the cool swag they have to offer us F-100 enthusiasts!).

So grab your favorite cold one and thumb through another great issue of the raddest F-100s out there, and if you feel like you have what it takes to make it into these pages, please shoot me a message. You can reach me directly at alexandermediainc@gmail.com, feel free to share your projects, stories, likes, dislikes and everything in between. We love to hear from our readers, after all, and we couldn’t do any of this awesomeness without YOU! And you couldn’t do any of it without the younger generation to carry the torch, so lend a hand and share that knowledge, you never know who is the next Rad Rides or Chip Foose just waiting to be encouraged by “an old timer” in a local garage. See you out there!
