ONE HOPE CANADA
ACROSS CANADA Churches called to pray for camp One Hope Canada, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Christian Camping InternationalCanada and Fellowship of Christian Camps (BC) are partnering for the second annual Day of Prayer for Camp. Congregations are encouraged to set aside Sunday, May 31 to profile camp ministry and take time to pray for those involved.
There are over 400 Bible camps in Canada attended by more than 250,000 children and youth each year. More than 200 churches from across the country participated in Day of Prayer for Camp in 2019.
When considering camp ministry’s eternal significance, the need for prayer is evident, says Logan Baier, a former cabin leader at Manitou Lake Bible Camp in Saskatchewan. “God is the one who is really working in campers’ hearts in the first place,” he says. “At the end of the day, we need the Holy Spirit to bring them to a relationship with Jesus. If we’re not praying for that, then what are we doing?” “Camp is a great work, and one that is not just about having fun in the summer,” says Calvin Bennett, vice-president of camps for InterVarsity. “It is about reaching this generation for Jesus.
It is a spiritual work, and one that needs prayer to be successful. Prayer absolutely changes things. Prayer changes people.” Free online resources are available to help congregations plan for Day of Prayer for Camp, including downloadable posters, bulletin inserts, bookmarks highlighting ten ways to pray, handouts, promotional videos and creative ideas for hosting a Day of Prayer for Camp event. www.PrayForCamp.ca Missing from our camp supplement?
