Faith Today articles won five awards in this year’s Word Awards, a national contest. Winners were announced Sept. 25 at www.TheWordGuild.com. Winners include Meagan Gillmore (blog), Carolyn Arends (columns, songwriting), Sherman Lau (news, upcoming journalist) and Jenna Smith (short feature).
The Bamboo Hat was named best feature film, and its team of Sisi Li and Xiaoxin Zeng named best director, at the fifth annual Canadian International Faith & Family Film Festival (www.cifflix.com). Other winners include Doctrine of Discovery: Stolen Lands, Strong
Hearts (documentary) and Road to Lemon Grove (family film).
RENAMED
Engage Today is the new name for the mission organization formerly known as Advancing Indigenous
Missions, which for 21 years has helped Canadian churches link with independent Indigenous church planting ministries in south and southeast Asia. Canadian headquarters are in Winnipeg (www.Engage.Today).
ShareWord Global is now officially the name for the Gideons International in Canada, an evangelistic association with a 110-year history of distribution of Scripture in hotel rooms, schools and beyond. The ministry
“works to partner with churches and denominations to mobilize Christians of every nationality to share the gospel and Scripture in the context of personal evangelistic encounters.” The Canadian arm of this ministry (ShareWordGlobal.com/ca) became autonomous in 2011 and is known also for its Scripture magazines and NewLife app.
