A leader in evangelical education for 140+ years

For more than 140 years, Wycliffe College has been a leader in evangelical Christian education in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Recently Wycliffe – through the University of Toronto – received a million-dollar grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to form an exciting, first-in-Canada institute that holds the potential to transform the way data on the Canadian Church is collected, maintained, stored, accessed and used.

This initiative, to be known as The Canadian Institute for Empirical Church Research, will be established in partnership with WayBase and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.

While the Institute is still in the planning phase, it promises to become a gamechanging endeavour for the Canadian Church. Through the institute researchers will one day be able to conduct in-depth, data-driven studies into what differentiates great churches from merely good ones, for example, or analyze those characteristics that contribute to the death or recovery of church congregations in urban or rural areas.

At Wycliffe, our mission is to educate people for practical ministry and theological scholarship in Christ’s global Church and the world. The Canadian Institute for Empirical Church Research will help position Wycliffe as a locus of information and support on trends and developments in the Canadian Church.
