What do you look for in a winter coat?

1. Prior to shooting for clients such as Hudson’s Bay, Bloomingdale’s and Holt Renfrew, MALINA CORPADEAN “funnily enough” had her sights set on becoming a math teacher. That all changed once she received a camera as a gift. This issue, the award-winning photographer captured model Herieth Paul in Canadian-designed fall looks (“Statement Pieces,” page 118), which included many a cool topper. Her coat of choice? “My favourite is a Céline trench.” 2. “I was surprised to learn that the human brain isn’t good at multitasking,” says JENNIFER GOLDBERG of the research she uncovered while writing “Mind Trap” (page 95). “I thought doing several things at once was a strength, but it turns out to be a weakness.” Alas, Goldberg, whose work has appeared in The Globe and Mail and Reader’s Digest, will have to get used to multitasking, especially now that she is a mother. 3. FASHION beauty editor SARAH DANIEL jetted to Paris for the launch of L’Occitane’s Pierre Hermé collaboration (“Pairing Menu,” page 84) and compiled the hair tips from industry insiders for “Mane Menu” (page 76). Some of her most memorable moments as beauty editor include attending a dinner at Roberto Cavalli’s villa in Florence and assigning a story to her ultimate ’80s crush, Andrew McCarthy, for our May 2013 issue. “I’ll save his emails forever.” 4. New York-based hairstylist DJ QUINTERO has frequented many of Manhattan’s luxe hotels, but had yet to experience the grandeur of the Baccarat Hotel until FASHION ’s cover shoot (“A Beautiful Mind,” page 108). “It was gorgeous. Every nook had something fabulous to look at,” he says. “We were afraid of breaking something!” Quintero’s work has appeared in Vogue, W and Interview, and his clients have included such stars as Sir Mick Jagger and Salma Hayek.
