As a high-school freshman, celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager wasn’t permitted to wear fragrance so she used Herbal Essences conditioner as a body lotion. “I wanted to smell good, and I felt empowered by it,” she recalls. Though this seems laughable now, it speaks to the brand’s long-standing popularity when it comes to scent. But Brager, who tends to the manes of Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger, points out that Herbal Essences shampoos, conditioners and styling products have evolved from her teen years to be much more than their smell. The Bio:Renew shampoos and conditioners feature a mix of aloe, sea kelp and histidine (a natural antioxidant), so every time you use them, your own supply of histidine is topped up. “Over time, you can feel the amount of protein in your hair increase,” says Brager. Four new scents join the lineup: Bourbon Manuka Honey, Micellar Water & Blue Ginger, White Strawberry & Sweet Mint and Deep Sea Minerals ($8 each).
