Inside Moncler 4 Simone Rocha’s tent, the models criss-cross a runway path on a set constructed to look like a snow-covered mountain. The ladylike ruffles, puffy jackets and bell-shaped skirts with bustles are more après-ski, but their inspiration is decidedly rugged. Rocha said she was inspired by Victorian female climbers like Josephine Diebitsch Peary, Henriette d’Angeville and Maria de Mont Blanc, who hiked mountains in their petticoats. “These women would go up mountains in full Victorian dress,” Rocha explained. “I wanted to create a uniform of voluminous silhouettes, deconstructed proportions and a new idea of a practical femininity.”
