The ba­sic square ban­dana has been dubbed the Swiss Army knife of ac­ces­sories. When it’s tied tightly around the neck, it tele­graphs a so­phis­ti­cated cool. When it’s used to hold hair off the face, it takes on a more util­i­tar­ian, fem­i­nist air—like what you’d see in a vin­tage wartime pro­pa­ganda poster. Be­yond style, there’s some­thing pro­tec­tive about wear­ing an item wrapped around your head or neck. Per­haps that was the in­spi­ra­tion be­hind YSL’s sil­ver-tone neck­lace that re­sem­bles a ker­chief. In­stead of cloth, the hefty and fierce piece is made of solid brass. It’s creative direc­tor An­thony Vaccarello’s take on body ar­mour for a night on the town.
