While many perfumes transport you to a field of flowers, Dolce & Gabbana’s The Only One will remind you of the gelato shops along the streets of Rome, with a few surprises along the way. First is the continued use of British actress Emilia Clarke as the face. “Italy is so woven into the brand, so for an English rose to take on this kind of role is quite fun,” says Clarke. Then there’s the scent’s unexpected combination of violet and coffee with a warm base of vanilla and patchouli to round out its richness, which also happens to be a coincidental combination for Clarke. “The scents that remind me of Italy are coffee and the inside of a gelateria,” she says. What’s not at all unexpected is that The Only One is bold and emotional, not unlike Italians themselves, says Clarke. “When they feel something good, they really feel it. And they let you know.”
