GRASSE-FED
Gabrielle, which was Coco Chanel’s real name, was released in 2017. It was the first new fragrance in 15 years for Chanel. In-house perfumer Olivier Polge said he wanted to create “a dreamy, imaginary flower” using Grasse tuberose, jasmine, ylang-ylang and orange blossom. It may contain the “capricious” tuberose, but this scent is anything but mercurial. It’s a gentle, thoughtful and layered floral fragrance that casts a quiet, intimate spell. When I interviewed Kristen Stewart at the launch last year, she described it as an “unabashedly feminine” fragrance. “There’s nothing aggressive about this perfume,” she told me. “It’s quiet, and that’s its strength.”
