POETIC FASHION
Valentino’s latest collection was patterned with poems in what Pierpaolo Piccioli called an “intimate expression of freedom.”
In the foreword to On Love, a booklet of poems Pierpaolo Piccioli compiled for Valentino’s Fall 2019 show, he wrote that “poetry is the most intimate expression of freedom. Because freedom is what we all need now.” Piccioli collaborated with poets Greta Bellamacina, Yrsa Daley-Ward, Robert Montgomery and Toronto’s Mustafa the Poet. He embroidered their words into garments or had them printed on accessories, like this purse, which features Mustafa’s liberating musings on boundless love: “There’s a forever beyond the sky / I think we should go there tonight.”
