Alessandro Michele’s overhaul of Gucci’s makeup kicked off with lipstick ($49 each), and as you would expect from the designer who shook up the Italian fashion house, he is redefining what beauty means with the campaign (one of the four faces is punk singer Dani Miller, who is missing her lateral incisors) as well as how lipstick should be used. The 58 shades come in three textures (satin, sheer and balm), and it’s suggested that they can all be used on cheeks—a beauty hack that existed long before the term itself. Plus, nine have been formulated to be used specifically on the eyes. “For me, this is wonderful because for years on shoots and at shows, we’ve been using lipstick everywhere,” says Thomas de Kluyver, Gucci Beauty’s global makeup artist, on how he doesn’t subscribe to makeup rules.
