This dried fruit mar­malade is easy to make and brings a touch of so­phis­ti­ca­tion to your cheese board. It will keep for up to 3 weeks re­frig­er­ated, and also makes a ter­rific host­ess gift.

½ tsp (2 mL) ground car­damom

½ cup (125 mL) unsweet­ened dried cher­ries ½ cup (125 mL) or­ange mar­malade

¼ cup (60 mL) Scotch whisky

¼ cup (60 mL) wa­ter

1 Heat a small saucepan over low heat and add car­damom to toast. Once it be­comes fra­grant, about 1 minute, add cher­ries, mar­malade, whisky and ¼ cup (60 mL) wa­ter.

2 Cover and bring to a gen­tle boil over high heat. Lower heat and sim­mer un­til cher­ries have soft­ened, about 20 min­utes.

3 Place in small bowl and re­frig­er­ate to chill. Stir once be­fore serv­ing.

Makes 1 cup (250 mL)
