red wine

-

Mr. Riedel’s experiment involved tasting the same wine (a renowned Ontario Pinot Noir) out of three different red wine glasses—the ones we’re showing on this page. The different shape of the glasses affected the way the aroma molecules reached us. The wine seemed fragrant and floral in the Pinot Noir glass, much earthier in the Shiraz glass and spicy and short in the Cabernet/ Merlot glass. Like three different wines! Then we performed the same test with a Shiraz from the Okanagan and a Californian Cabernet Sauvignon. Same result. Riedel offers a huge range of glassware at every price level (riedel.com); these three come from his Veritas collection.
