Wood Buffalo RCMP is launching a new way to provide residents with up-to-date information on incidents in the region.

The online crime map will focus five key areas: Break and enters, stolen vehicles, mischief, theft from motor vehicles and missing persons.

The new tool allows residents to see where personal and property crimes have occurred over a two-week period.

“Neighbourhood crime isn’t just about numbers; it’s about knowing where crime is happening in our region,” says Superintendent Lorna Dicks in a statement. “This new tool gives residents an opportunity to be an extra set of eyes and ears in the communities we serve.”

The RCMP says the map is another tool for preventing crime in the region.

Officers remind residents to always lock their vehicles, remove valuable items from visible places, take photos of your personal property and especially serial numbers, and to join community associations including the Citizens on Patrol and Rural Crime Watch.
