Retired NHL player and Olympic gold medalist Theo Fleury will be in Fort Mcmurray Tuesday to speak and offer support after a local hockey coach was charged with luring a child, sexual assault and sexual exploitation on Monday. The reported incidents allegedly occurred this past year when accused Steven Charles James, 31, was a volunteer coach with the Fort Mcmurray Minor Hockey Association.

Fleury, a survivor of sexual abuse himself, has been a strong advocate and voice for those who have been sexually abused.

When Fleury was recruited to play junior hockey in Winnipeg at 13, he said his coach Graham James sexually abused him for two and a half years.

On Monday, Fleury reached out to the community, saying he would be available, free of charge, to speak with the survivors.

Theo Fleury speaks at the 2018 Victor Walk in Fort Mcmurray, Alta. on July 17, 2018.
